Major Bar Chord Shapes

Notice how these shapes aren’t getting mixed around. They’re going in order through the word “CAGED” starting on the E, then going to D, then C, and so on. As you’ll find out, everything on the guitar repeats. We don’t have to end after we go through the word CAGED once, we can keep going and going repeatedly (just go in order). After our A shape we can play a G shape again, then another E shape, and a D shape, and on it repeats. Eventually of course, you’ll run out of frets.

We can also go backwards through the word CAGED. Before E is G, meaning we can place our open G major chord shape “behind” the E bar chord shape in the above diagram (see how it fits right in?).
